I walked out of my apartment this morning and there were crowds of people pointing and looking up. I followed their gaze and saw this*:
And immediately flashed back to Tuesday, September 11th, 2001. I was walking out of my dorm, heading to class, when I looked up and saw a smoking hole in Tower #1 of the World Trade Center. The balmy weather, the crystal clear sky, it was all just a bit too familiar this morning.
Today's fire certainly didn't make tonight's news, and was barely a blip on the world wide web, yet it left me remembering one of the most somber days in NY history and feeling thankful that I live in this amazing city.
*No, it's not my building but the building across the street.
