Another lesson in semantics

Is a closed out sale anything like a close out sale? Doesn't matter though because you wouldn't want to shop at this store anyway.

Turning the corner

As we were biking back across town this evening, we saw this long flat-bed truck with a steel beam trying to turn on to Broadway (given the location, I'd bet money that it was going to the WTC).

We stood there, mesmerized, and watched as the driver slowly inched forwards and then backwards, forwards and backwards, forwards and backwards, until the tail met the engine and he continued down Broadway. The crowd on the street corner applauded as he drove into the night.

A Letter to the Triathlon Committee

Dear NYC Triathlon Administrators,

I'm really eager to participate in the race. I think that it will be a great test for me. Both mentally and physically. I have been enjoying the training thus far (even after last night's slight hiccup).

However, I've decided that swimming the Hudson just isn't for me. So I'd like to do this:

OK? Thanks!

Love,
SEL

Can I really do this?

I'm exhausted. This is going to be brief.

We had a group run tonight in Central Park. It wasn't a long one, just 40 minutes and about 4.9 miles. Unfortunately I had a rough time. I was counting down to the finish by mile 1.5. I had a burst of energy between miles 2 and 3 and I hit the wall around 4. Angel dragged me to the "finish line" where I seriously had to sit down for awhile. I was able to rally afterward for a trip to the bar because come on, isn't that what tri-training is all about? I'm home now and still not feeling quite right. Was it the warm weather (the thermometer on the CNN building said 81)? Did I not drink enough water today? Or perhaps I didn't sleep enough last night?

Tonight was definitely the first time I questioned my ability to complete the triathlon. How will I be able to do that run (10k) after swimming a mile and biking 25? Am I in over my head?

My introduction to Saint Elizabeth

For those of you who guessed I was at a church, you were right! And for the one person who guessed that I was at St. Patricks, well, you, Erinn, were DOUBLE RIGHT!

I was walking home from the Upper West Side today and I passed St. Patrick's. Having toured hundreds (ok, well maybe not hundreds, but lots) of churches and cathedrals in Europe, I decided it was high time that I visit the one in my backyard.

I was walking around checking out the nave when all of a sudden, 1pm mass started. So I sat down.

After mass (yes, I sat through the whole thing), I walked around some more. Did you know that there is a Saint named Elizabeth? That's my middle name! I told a friend afterwards that I always thought I had saintly personality traits; she accurately pointed out that I'm more like Mother Theresa.

Then I wanted to light a candle. I walked around to all of the Saint's shrines, but couldn't find an appropriate one, so I lit a candle at the "general" candle area at the front of the church. I bet it's the best $1 I spend all week. Although Sax Man would probably disagree.

"Hoppy" Easter!!

I hope y'all had a great day. No bunny sightings here (other than the box that she sent earlier this week) but lots of sun, friends and good food.

Chilly tootsies

This morning during training they made us take off our shoes and run the track barefoot (insert comment here about the frigid temperature). I couldn't hear why (or maybe I wasn't listening) so I have no clue what the point of the exercise was, but I did it! I am giving myself mad props considering several of my teammates didn't attempt it (ahem, E+P). And yes, a chocolate chip pancake breakfast followed. I felt I deserved it today. Or at least my feet did.
