A former colleague (and present friend!) opened his own shop late last year. He waited awhile to tell people and I finally made it downtown this afternoon to check it out.
It's very vintagy, but extremely elegant. He and his business partner have curated an exquisite collection that includes finds from their travels abroad as well as local treasures. They have housewares, clothing and jewelry, all set up in a very living-room-esque space. It's truly a little gem! My favorite part of the store is the floor. It was a gross, old, wood floor that they covered by laying down dictionary pages and covering them with clear varnish. I think that it's a very appropriate detail as the name of the store is Voz (Spanish for "voice"). And what better way to give a store a voice than to cover it with words?
On a side note, I got a hair cut today.
Yes. Someone got a little scissor happy. But this, too, shall pass.
